Woodflow is an advanced decision support system for planning and analysis of wood procurement. It consists of an optimization model, modeling languages, optimization solvers, automatic distance calculation and procedures for maintenance and updates. Also included is a graphical interface to use for easy analysis and visualization of results.

Woodflow has no dependencies on third-party suppliers

Optimizing wood supply chain planning

Swedish forestry transports every year 80 million tonnes of round wood on trucks and trains at a cost of more than 6 billion SEK. Efficient logistics planning is therefore a key factor in the profitability of forestry. Studies at the Forestry Research Institute of Sweden show that the use of decision support with optimization for fundamental decisions on allocation of timber volumes can improve planning and reduce logistics costs by 5-15% and reduce emissions of harmful greenhouse gases with corresponding numbers. The use of decision support requires a high level of knowledge about how the problem should be formulated and what goals are important, the data that is relevant and what uncertainties and limitations that has to be taken into account.

Woodflow Analyzer is an advanced tool for transport follow-up. Using information on real transports Analyzer calculates transport efficiency by comparing the real transports with an optimal solution of the same volumes. The optimization is flexible and can use different time and geographical aggregations. Woodflow Analyzer can be purchased separately.

Woodflow Optimizer is a powerful tool for planning transports and analyzing alternative
transport scenarios. Optimizer takes a number of different features into account, such as different
transport modes,back-hauling, collaboration, and multiple periods.

Woodflow UX is an intuitive graphical interface for Optimizer and Analyzer. It has features for loading
and validating data, optimization adjustments and result interpretation via map and tables.

How much can you save ?

Available for both PC and Mac
or with a standalone application in a server environment

Woodflow reads different types of data standards
such as .csv, .xml, .xlsx and .json.
  • The Woodflow model is a very flexible optimization model covering a wide range of details in round wood procurement planning. Some of these are intermodal transport systems (truck/train/boat), terminals, storage potential, multiple periods, back hauling potential, etc.
  • It can be used to solve many different planning challenges, either as operative planning tool creating transportation plans, or as tool for strategic analyses aiming to create decision support.  As strategic tool it can answer a number of very important questions such as the optimal use of intermodal transports and terminals, the potential in different customer offers, timber exchange between companies, etc.

  • Analyzer is a part within the Woodflow system. It is a powerful optimization tool for the analysis of transports. It calculates the theoretical savings potential under given conditions and gives companies possibilities to create KPI values on transport efficiency.
